The One and Only

Skating on a board…

Ever since I was younger, I always wanted a skateboard.

One of my friends at kindergarten had a skateboard, and I always begged my dad to buy me one. I seriously have no idea why I wanted to have the same thing as my friend. But, well, I did.

I asked for a skateboard year after year and to this day, I still don’t know what 6-year old me would do with one.

I even wrote a PowerPoint about Tony Hawk for a school project! Like, what?

Eventually I forgot about all the skateboard things and moved on in life.

But then, 4 years later, I finally bought one!

Now, when I got it, I knew nothing about skateboarding. I decided that for some reason I would try do it, but while holding on to those weird fences with, like, that diamond pattern. So I was quickly switching my hands around and skating around at the same time. I either looked like a pro rock climber or some lame guy who knows nothing about how to skate properly.

To be honest, option 2 probably suits that better.

So about a week ago now, I watched a YouTube tutorial about how to skateboard, and I have learnt so much stuff. You could even call me a pro.

Yeah, nah.

Well, I did manage to make a lot of progress on skating after watching that video though. I learnt to check if I was regular footed or goofy footed (goofy, if you’re wondering) and learnt that “wall skating” would be totally useless in the wide world of skate parks.

So, I learnt to use slopes to my advantage, stop at the right time and I also started on flat areas! Now I really am a proffesional.

Still, no.

But, well, I’m making a lot of progress, and that’s my story of skating on a board…for now.
