The One and Only

Happy Birthday, Netaji

[Information source: Wikipedia]

Subash Chandra Bose was an Indian Nationalist who fought for India’s independence from the British. Today is his birthday.

Bose was born on 23 January 1897 in Cuttack, Orissa Division, Bengal Province, to Prabhavati Dutt Bose and Janakinath Bose.

He studied in Stewart High School (in his time, Protestant European School, in 1902), Ravenshaw Collegiate School (1909), the University of Calcutta (1919) and the University of Cambridge (1921).

He was influenced by Swami Vivekananda after reading about them. He felt his country was more important than studies.

In those days, the British in Calcutta often were rude and insulting to the Indians. This behavior of the British as well as the outbreak of World War I began to influence his thinking.

He later joined the Scottish Church College at the University of Calcutta.

Bose was arrested by the British many times during India’s struggle for independence.

He also started the Azad Hind Fauz to fight the British. Bose spread a message of fearlessness, freedom and his teachings influences all Indians even today.

We remember him on his birthday.
