[P: C: Netflix]
Yeah, i’m late to the party. Christmas is in 345 days.
Wow.
My explanation for being so late is: I never had time to sit on the couch and watch a film on Netflix, and I only found out it was an Academy Award nominee until yesterday night. So, I woke up early to watch this film and I must say, I enjoyed it.
Klaus is the story of Jesper, a greedy postman who underperforms at his job, until his father sends him to the distant island town of Smeerensburg. He prefers not to go, but his father forces him. When he arrives at Smeerensburg, he meets a boatsman who takes him on a ride to the town. Jesper’s father told Jesper that he has to start a post office there. Jesper realises that everyone in Smeerensberg is a bit crazy. The boatsman tricks Jesper into ringing a bell for a reception, and instead Jesper gets into the middle of a fight between two clans.
Jesper has to run to a “school” for safety and meets Alva, a schoolteacher who is now a fishmonger.
He then finds his home/post office and is shocked by how different it is to his original home.
He sees a place not far from Smeerensburg and rides on his carriage over there. That is when he runs into Klaus’ home. He goes inside, and finds himself trapped by icicles blocking the door from opening. He goes to the attic and finds a window. When he tries to get out, he sees a large man and toys on the shelf. Shocked, he turns on a toy switch and escapes out the window. He runs into Klaus outside the house, and then runs back into his carriage. He drops a drawing that one of the Smeerensburg children drew out of his pocket, and Klaus picks it up.
The next day, Klaus comes to Jesper’s home and asks where the drawing was found. They go there and Klaus forces Jesper to deliver a toy there.
After they see how happy the child is with his new toy, Klaus and Jesper eventually become friends, delivering toys, and expanding Jesper’s business.
I won’t spoil the rest for you, you’ll have to watch it yourself. But overall, Klaus is a great movie.
Really great.
