We’re back on our streak of Olympic updates! Today we’ve got quite a few things to cover, so let’s get straight into it!
First of all, we have the men’s and women’s 100m racing! Let’s start with the men’s one.
In the finals of the men’s 100m, Lamont Marcell Jacobs of Italy won gold! Fred Kerley from the U.S. won silver and Andre De Grasse from Canada won bronze! Another thing that happened in this round was that British sprinter Zharnel Hughes got a false start and got disqualified right at the beginning of the race. That’s an annoying way to end your Olympic journey, isn’t it?
Now, let’s go to the women’s 100m! In the women’s one, the gold, silver and bronze medals ALL come from Jamaica! That’s cool, isn’t it? Gold was from Elaine Thompson-Herah! The cool thing is that she has beaten the Olympic record by 0.01 seconds! That is such a short amount of time! Silver was won by Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and bronze by Shericka Jackson.
Now, football! In football, Japan and New Zealand faced off in the quarter-finals. At the end, Japan won 4-2. A bit disappointing, but all the best to Japan in the semi-finals, and hopefully into the finals!
Another really cool thing is that India has won their second medal! P.V. Sindhu won a bronze medal in badminton, beating He Bingjiao of Japan in the women’s singles. It’s another really proud moment for us and for the Indians that are also in India even more!
So, that was all today! A bit longer than usual, since a lot of interesting things are happening. See you!
