One of the best films I have watched on Netflix recently is a Hindi film, named Swades (Our Country). Swades is based on a true story of a non-resident Indian. In Swades, a NRI named Mohan Bhargava is a N.A.S.A scientist who feels guilty about not meeting the lady who raised him. He eventually leaves America to meet her. He first goes to a resting home, but finds out that she isn’t there. The receptionist tells him to visit a village called Charanpur. Mohan goes to Charanpur by renting an RV from his friend in Delhi. He first goes in the wrong direction, but eventually finds a man headed the direction of Charanpur as well. The man guides him, and he then comes to Charanpur.
At Charanpur, he meets the lady who raised him. He also meets his childhood friend, Gita.
Mohan realises that the village has lot of problems. People are poor, they do not have food. Kids are not educated. There is no electricity.
Mohan decides the only way to solve the issue is to do things on your own and solve the problems rather than wait for others to solve them for you.
He soon forms a team of villagers and uses power generated from water to generate electricity.
The villagers realise the power of togetherness. Mohan’s leadership ensures that everyone understand that in order to solve your own problems, you have to be together.
Mohan returns to India from NASA to continue the good work he started.
Swades shows if you team up no problem is big enough. When there is a will, they is a way.
Swades is available to watch on Netflix
